Oxymoron = Marriage Prep

Tonight and tomorrow, Scott and I will be going to Second Baptist's Marriage Prep Seminar. As I was telling someone about it, I thought....marriage prep, what an oxymoron. I'm guessing that even though I've been in many relationships, NOTHING can "prepare" me for marriage. However, it is very possible that I will gain some much needed insight.

Below is the list of topics that are said to be covered:
  • marital expectations
  • communication
  • differences and needs of a man/woman
  • predicting a successful marriage
  • love languages
  • preventing an affair
  • conflict resolution
  • becoming soul mates
  • the engagement covenant
  • wedding vows
  • finances
  • blending families
  • dealing with in-law issues and more....

I will keep you posted on what I thought about it all.

Taking my own advice

I've decided to take my own advice....

Never make someone a priority when all you are is an option to them!

...now let's see how long I can remember that while finishing up wedding planning.

As we grow up...

I realize that I posted earlier about being a "grown up" and this sort of relates to that post. Most everyone has seen this email at some point, but today, I really understood it.

As we grow up…

As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will.

You will have your heart broken probably more than once and it's harder every time.

You'll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken.

You'll fight with your best friend.

You'll blame a new love for things an old one did.

You'll cry because time is passing too fast, and you'll eventually lose someone you love.

So take too many picture, laugh too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back.

Don't be afraid that your life will end, be afraid that it will never begin.

And this one too:
The most difficult lesson to learn is:
Which bridge in life to use or which one to break off.

Obedience

There was a time when we expected nothing of our children but obedience, as opposed to the present, when we expect everything of them but obedience.

Wrong Baby?

As I was getting ready for work, half-listening to the radio, I heard the DJ ask people to call in and guess the number of babies that a hospital has given to the wrong mother on a daily basis. Now I didn't get to hear the actual number, nor do I really want to know, but it reminded me of my own story 26 years ago when I was given to the wrong mother at the hospital where I was born....

My mom delivered via c-section on April 30th to a GIRL (me). Coincidentally, my mom's best friend's sister-in-law (Tammy) delivered a baby BOY (Mark Shannon) on April 29th and they happened to be sharing a room. At some point, both babies were brought into the room and the cart that I was in was rolled over to Tammy. My mom said she never noticed because she was just admiring the baby in her arms, kissing and hugging it. Tammy caught on much quicker because she said, "that's my baby". My mom said no it isn't, this is MY baby....sure enough though, Tammy was right and my mom was holding Mark and Tammy was holding me.

Mark and I grew up together in school and we were the flower girl/ring bearer in my aunt's wedding later on. Thank goodness we weren't both girls.... I can't imagine what would have happened if I would have been sent home to the wrong family.

Travel woes

I plan to blog a little more in depth later on about my holidays. For now, I've decided that when I travel I miss these 3 things the most (in this order).

#1) My bed
#2) My towels
#3) My preferred toilet paper brand

No explanation necessary I think...
